You've posted a social action and people are starting to engage. Perhaps you're approaching your goal, you've far exceeded it (lucky you!), or something has occurred to alter your tactics.

As an action develops over time, it's important to share updates with those who've already supported it as well as new parties who could be interested. By keeping your audience in the loop and giving a fresh faces to an action, you're that much more likely to inspire interest and involvement.

Best of all, ActionSprout's tools make these updates really easy to do.

Creating and Managing Action Updates

To get started, log into ActionSprout and select the Facebook page you'd like to work with from the Accounts screen.

Next, open the Social Actions section of your account and open any action you'd like to create an update for.

At the top of the Editing screen click the updates tab. Then click the green Add an Update button in the middle of the page.

When you click that button, it will open up a spot for you to type in your updateinfo. After you're done with that, click Save and Publish.

You can always come back to this Updates menu to review updates made tothis action, edit any existing updates, or create a new update.

Finished? Great! Now your action updates will appear just below your featured image and right above your description, like this:

A Few Update Limitations

  1. Updates cannot be made for Sproutlets. There just isn’t enough real estate to display them.
  2. There are no limits to the number of updates you can make for a single action.
  3. There are no limits to the amount of words or character you can include with updates. Write as much as you need. Feel free to include images or videos, too!
  4. Updates cannot be deleted once created. They can only further updated.

Sharing Updates

If any supporter chooses to share your action, they'll automatically share the update along with it, like this:

Each update you create for an action also comes with it’s own unique link you can share anywhere. This link will act as a full action post when shared and will be tracked and treated as such on your action’s dashboard in ActionSprout.

On Facebook, this share will include:

  • A place for you to write your own thoughts and message at the top
  • The selected update quoted right below your message
  • A link to the action

So when someone clicks on this post now, it will take them to the action with the latest update fully expanded, so it's easy to notice. (If you have other updates on the action, they will start as collapsed unless expanded by the viewer.)

Automatic Gold Plan Notifications

If you're a Facebook Gold Plan member, you have the additional option to send updates to supporters via Facebook notifications. Simply check the box below if you'd like to create an update this way:

Once you click Save and Publish all previous action takers will receive a Facebook notification letting them know the latest info you provided.

If they click on that notification, it will take them to the action with the update expanded for them to easily find and read it.

Please note: If you go back and update this update, a new notification will not be sent to supporters.
